Practical Life Children participate in a “real life” set up. They want to learn by imitating adult activities such as cooking, cleaning, polishing etc. When they accomplish these tasks with independence they develop self-esteem, self-discipline and confidence. Sensorial Children will isolate and refine their visual, auditory, tactile, stereognostic, olfactory and gustatory senses by discriminating, matching, seriating, grading items according to colour, geometrical shape, size etc. Children develop intelligence and mental order through their senses. Language The materials are designed to prepare children for spoken language, reading and writing. When children are developmentally prepared to read and write, skills are at hand and allow the experience to come naturally. In this area children will practice phonics, recognize words and develop their creative thinking. Math All materials are sequenced from simple to complex and concrete to abstract. This area provides stimulation and exploration for preparing the child’s mathematical mind and promoting logical thinking.
